Photographer Mark O’Neill spent a lot of time and effort creating a series of photographs showing a ghostly collection of monuments in the former Yugoslav territories.\u00a0These lonely sculptures in the middle of the landscapes of the \u201cbroken dream\u201d recall the monuments of ancient civilization buried in the sands of time.\u00a0Each of them is trying to tell the story of their past in their own unique language.\u00a0About wartime events that are too painful to remember, and too terrible to forget.<\/p>\n

These sculptures seem earthly and alien at the same time.\u00a0They are bizarre and at the same time extremely understandable.\u00a0Bulky, angular, threatening to fall on you at any moment.\u00a0Some, it seems, had long had to soar into the night sky and dissolve into space, but their depressing heaviness became their enemy.<\/p>\n
