{"id":10576,"date":"2020-06-01T12:41:58","date_gmt":"2020-06-01T12:41:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifind.al\/?p=10576"},"modified":"2020-06-01T13:18:16","modified_gmt":"2020-06-01T13:18:16","slug":"antigua-and-barbuda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifind.al\/index.php\/2020\/06\/01\/antigua-and-barbuda\/","title":{"rendered":"Antigua and Barbuda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to the\u00a0island of\u00a0<strong>Antigua and\u00a0<a class=\"content-site\" href=\"#\">Barbuda<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0as part of my trip to the Caribbean.\u00a0I arrived at Dominica airport, got on a plane of the local airline LIA\u0422 and after 40 minutes landed at the anti-Guan airport.<\/p>\n<p>The state consists of several small and two large islands &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Antigi<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Barbuda<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Yes, it is Antigoy that the locals call the main island.\u00a0Barbuda is usually called Barbuda, but I am more familiar in the English manner.\u00a0The third largest island of the state is the uninhabited\u00a0<strong>Redonda<\/strong>\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/s1.travelask.ru\/system\/images\/files\/000\/211\/314\/wysiwyg\/500843_original.jpg?1486405378\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"547\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t say that I wanted to be on Antigua.\u00a0Rather, I flew at it to the heap, since I went to the other side of the world to\u00a0<a href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\">Barbados<\/a>\u00a0and Dominica.\u00a0Sin was not to capture another Caribbean country.\u00a0The choice fell on this former British colony.<\/p>\n<h2>Who should go to Antigua and Barbuda?<\/h2>\n<p>Antigu differs from other Caribbean countries that I visited.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\">Barbados<\/a>\u00a0is such a Caribbean\u00a0<a class=\"content-site\" href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mecca<\/a>\u00a0, where there is something to see, and where to swim, and where to come off.\u00a0Tourism there is designed for independent travelers from Europe aged 20 to 45.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\">Dominica<\/a>\u00a0is a godsend for lovers of eco-tourism.\u00a0Holidays in this country are suitable for wealthy Americans and Europeans, fed up with white beaches, who are afraid of the abbreviation GMO, like hellfire.\u00a0They go to Dominica for the sake of its pristine nature and the complete lack of infrastructure &#8211; environmentally friendly products, environmentally friendly air and nothing to do.<\/p>\n<p><em>Antiga is different.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Locals say there are 365 beaches on the island &#8211; one for each day of the year.\u00a0I don\u2019t know if this is true or not.\u00a0But this clearly describes the country&#8217;s main wealth.\u00a0I would say the country&#8217;s only wealth.\u00a0If you are looking for a relaxing holiday on a white sand beach, then you are in Antigu.\u00a0If you are tired of the bustle of life in a stone jungle, then you are on Antigua.\u00a0If you are not interested in adventure, exoticism and thrills, then you are on Antigu.\u00a0If for you the poorly developed infrastructure and the almost complete absence of public transport does not matter, then you are in Antigu.\u00a0If you are not a backpacker and not an adherent of budget holidays in the Asian style, then you are also to Antigu.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/s1.travelask.ru\/system\/images\/files\/000\/211\/315\/wysiwyg\/770566_original.jpg?1486405499\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"547\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In short, Antiga is such a disco for those over 60.<\/p>\n<h2>Who should not go to Antigua and Barbuda?<\/h2>\n<p>Little is known to Russian tourists about Antigua and Barbuda.\u00a0It seems that this is a closed island, which is difficult to reach.\u00a0And if you already get it, then you will find a Caribbean fairy tale and colonial flavor.<\/p>\n<p>The Caribbean tale is, of course, about Antigua.\u00a0And then with a reservation.\u00a0After all, many of the beaches on the island are occupied by corporate hotels from the all inclusive series.\u00a0Personally, I was not particularly pleased to sunbathe on the beach, combed by rake, where Europeans are lying next to sunbeds, while locals serve them with colorful cocktails.\u00a0Somehow it all looked too much in the style of the Regency era.<\/p>\n<p>And the Caribbean flavor &#8211; All the cities of Antigui are similar to what we call rural villages in Russia.\u00a0These are villages where they built rows of houses around the local church.\u00a0In front of the houses there are flower beds, and their walls are painted in all kinds of colors: pink, green, yellow, blue, orange.\u00a0I admit, I would be glad if we borrowed this idea from cheerful anti-Guans.\u00a0Imagine, our typical high-rise buildings suddenly became multi-colored.<\/p>\n<p>I lived in the tiny town of\u00a0<strong>Liberta<\/strong>\u00a0in the south of the island.\u00a0Nearby was a ruined church, one-story houses with kindergartens and something like a boat parking near the water.\u00a0Despite the fact that the city of Liberta looks very modern, it has historical significance for Antigua.\u00a0It was here that the first freed slaves settled.\u00a0They acquired land from the ruined white masters and cultivated it.\u00a0The owner of my guesthouse proudly talked about this when she drove me home from the airport.\u00a0But there is nothing to be done in this, quite frankly, village.\u00a0And so it is everywhere.\u00a0An exception is the state capital St. John&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<h3>St johns<\/h3>\n<p>This city is home to 22,000 anti-Guans.\u00a0As befits the capital, it is the cultural and political center of the whole country.\u00a0Here is the largest port of the island and major retail outlets.\u00a0Do not think that you will find huge shopping centers here.\u00a0Instead, there are small malls, multi-brand boutiques, souvenir shops with Chinese consumer goods and shops with jewelry from local jewelers.\u00a0Many of them work on the Dutu free system, allowing foreigners to save up to 50% of the purchase price.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/s1.travelask.ru\/system\/images\/files\/000\/208\/379\/wysiwyg\/DSC_0056.JPG?1486509872\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"1225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Do not expect to find nightclubs and noisy pubs here.\u00a0In this country, it is not customary to have parties in the style of Ibiza.\u00a0And if people want to have fun with dances and dances, then he goes to Shirley Heights.\u00a0Everything in this town is decent in a Christian way.\u00a0Unless the guys in wide trousers and knitted rasta-caps will balamute the water.<\/p>\n<p>In 1632, the government appointed by the Crown selected this territory &#8211; St. Johns &#8211; for the construction of the residence.\u00a0The settlement was expanding: the British nobility settled here, a church and parliament were built.\u00a0In 1981, Antigua and\u00a0<a class=\"content-site tooltipstered\" href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\">Barbuda<\/a>\u00a0gained independence, and the city of St. John&#8217;s remained the capital of the state.<\/p>\n<p>You need to go to St. John&#8217;s if you are tired of a beach holiday and want to go out to &#8220;people&#8221;: go around the store and sit in restaurants.\u00a0There is even a colorful Chinese restaurant Shanghai Restaurant with antediluvian fan and non-English speaking staff.\u00a0If you want to enjoy colonial cuisine, head to Redcliffe Street and Thames Street.\u00a0They have the most restaurants and cafes that cook according to traditional anti-Guan recipes.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday and Saturday in the morning in the south of the city there is a farmer&#8217;s market.\u00a0Householders from all over the island come here.\u00a0They sell fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruits from the garden.\u00a0If you can\u2019t bring a guava home, it\u2019s unlikely that you will get guava jam with ease.\u00a0How cool it is to drink tea with such jam in Russia in winter, brewed by the caring hands of an anti-Guan granny.\u00a0Fans of souvenirs in the national style will find in the market handicrafts and jewelry in the colonial style.<\/p>\n<p>Getting lost in St. Johns is very difficult.\u00a0In terms of design, it resembles\u00a0<a class=\"content-site\" href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\">New York<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; the streets in it intersect at an angle of 90 degrees.\u00a0There are two bus stations in the city &#8211; the east opposite the Antigua and Barbuda Public Library and the west next to Valley Road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"description_block_190515\" class=\"h2_description rel\">\n<h2 class=\"underlined\">The islands<\/h2>\n<div class=\"wysiwyg-content\">\n<p>The state of Antigua and Barbuda includes two main islands and several small ones.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights:\u00a0<strong>Antigua, Barbuda.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Small: Prickly Pear Island (Island Prickly Pear), Long Island (Long Island), Guiana Island (GYANA Island), Green Island (Green Island), York Island (Island\u00a0<a class=\"content-site\" href=\"#\">City<\/a>\u00a0), Smith Island (the island of Smith), Maiden Island (Island Maiden) and a few very tiny uninhabited islands, which do not even have names on the map.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/s1.travelask.ru\/system\/images\/files\/000\/211\/340\/wysiwyg\/8fbd4d47f1.jpg?1486407141\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"556\" data-image=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And oh yes, I almost forgot about Redonda Island.\u00a0Although it is a state, it is still virtual.\u00a0Owned by Antigua and Barbuda.\u00a0There is practically no information about the islands that I categorized as &#8220;small&#8221;.\u00a0If, for example, in Thailand, it\u2019s normal practice to transport tourists by boat to small oases in the middle of the sea, then here you will not find such a service.\u00a0Most of the islets are privately owned, so landing on their beaches is illegal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Why go to Barbuda?<\/h4>\n<p>The calling card of this poor island is its pink beaches.\u00a0The sand seems so because of shells living on reefs.\u00a0After the death of the mollusk, they turn into tiny fragments, and then into sand grains.\u00a0Then the waves bring them ashore &#8211; it turns pink sand.<\/p>\n<p>From the northeast Barbudo is washed by the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0There are wild beaches, not suitable for a relaxing swim.\u00a0There are a lot of snags and sharp stone ledges in the water and on the shore.\u00a0On the southwest coast the opposite is true.\u00a0Here, calm aquamarine water, a pleasant entry into the water, clean beaches.\u00a0Nature has created ideal conditions for high-quality snorkeling in this part of the island.\u00a0Remember to grab the mask, snorkel and flippers if you go to Barbuda.\u00a0Here you can really see turtles, barracudas, stingrays, sharks and many other types of tropical aquatic inhabitants.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-site\" href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\">Barbuda<\/a>\u00a0is not the place to look for nightlife and a large number of tourist attractions.\u00a0This is an island where they seek unity with pristine nature.\u00a0Its flora is practically not disturbed.\u00a0Its fauna is also of interest.\u00a0Here lives the world&#8217;s largest colony of frigates.\u00a0Their habitat is a protected area.\u00a0You can\u2019t try to sail here in a private boat &#8211; it\u2019s illegal.\u00a0The only way to get to the nesting place of frigates is to hire a local four-seater boat, which will cost a tourist 50 USD + 12 USD per person for a guide.\u00a0By this\u00a0<a class=\"js-go-out\" href=\"#\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-go=\"http:\/\/www.barbudaful.net\/where-to-stay\/transport-and-tours\/taxis-tours.html\">link<\/a>\u00a0you will find the addresses and phone numbers of all the guides and taxi drivers who work on the island.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/s2.travelask.ru\/system\/images\/files\/000\/208\/417\/wysiwyg\/DSC_0099.JPG?1486509956\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"1225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"description_block_190515\" class=\"h2_description rel\">\n<div class=\"wysiwyg-content\">\n<h3>Great Bird Island<\/h3>\n<p>It is a tiny uninhabited island 3 kilometers northeast of Antigua (No. 2 on the map above).\u00a0Its area is only 81 square meters.\u00a0It is even smaller than most city parks in Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The island did not just get its name.\u00a0The first sailors who landed on it were struck by the number of birds that lived here.\u00a0This is a small eden for birds.\u00a0However, the island is open to tourists.\u00a0It is often included in the tour program.\u00a0I think you can get to it yourself if you pay a transfer to some fisherman on a motorboat.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/s1.travelask.ru\/system\/images\/files\/000\/208\/380\/wysiwyg\/DSC_0276.JPG?1486509877\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"549\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of picturesque beaches.\u00a0But the main value of the island lies in its inhabitants.\u00a0Rare Griswold amyves live here &#8211; these are such large lizards, similar to monitor lizards.\u00a0American brown pelicans, Cuban whistling ducks, and red-billed phaetons nest here.\u00a0Only here lives the anti-Guan racer &#8211; a unique kind of snake.\u00a0Be sure to bring food and bottled water with you &#8211; there is no shop or cafe on the island.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"description_block_190516\" class=\"h2_description rel\">\n<h2 class=\"underlined\">Top Attractions<\/h2>\n<div class=\"wysiwyg-content\">\n<p>Antigua is not rich in attractions.\u00a0But what to do to the poor tourist who was fried on the beach to the state of boiled cancer, and bedsores have already appeared on his gods?\u00a0Use all the entertainment options available in this former English colony.\u00a0The British heritage here is not as diverse as in Barbados, but there is still something to see.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/s2.travelask.ru\/system\/images\/files\/000\/208\/381\/wysiwyg\/DSC_0031f.jpg?1486509881\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"609\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>For history buffs<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fort James was<\/strong>\u00a0built by the British in the 18th century to guard St. John&#8217;s Harbor.\u00a0They expected an imminent French invasion.\u00a0Then, soldiers in red uniform ran around this very land.\u00a0At the disposal of 75 fellows there were 35 guns.\u00a0The greatness of the fort has long sunk into oblivion &#8211; every year the fort&#8217;s condition is increasingly deplorable.\u00a0All that remains of the past is 11 rusted cannons with monograms and the foundation of the fort.\u00a0The main value of this place is the spectacular view that opens from it to the harbor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fort Barrington<\/strong>\u00a0appeared on the territory of Antigua for a reason.\u00a0In 1779, Admiral Barrington ordered the construction of a giant semicircular fort on the approach to St. John&#8217;s Harbor.\u00a0It is located in Deep Bay in St. John&#8217;s County.\u00a0I advise everyone to visit this place.\u00a0If not in order to look at the decently preserved walls of the fort, then for the sake of a bewitching view that opens from the observation deck to the Caribbean Sea and the whole island from a height of 90 meters.\u00a0The climb up time is about 30 minutes.\u00a0Believe me, it&#8217;s worth it.\u00a0And here goats run everywhere, so look under your feet while climbing &#8211; sneakers can be dirty.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nelson&#8217;s Dockyard<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; This naval base was built by the British on this south side of the island to watch neighboring Guadeloupe.\u00a0At that time she was a French colony.\u00a0At the end of the 18th century, Admiral Nelson commanded here.\u00a0In honor of him, the shipyard, and the port, and the naval base in one bottle and bears its name now.\u00a0Today, this well-groomed territory.\u00a0Just walk along the path and enjoy the views.\u00a0I had the feeling that I was in a film studio, in the scenery of which the next film by Jane\u00a0<a class=\"content-site\" href=\"#\">Austen<\/a>\u00a0is being shot\u00a0.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Admiral&#8217;s House Museum<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Admiral Nelson&#8217;s house museum.\u00a0Located in a single Nelson&#8217;s Dockyard complex in English Harbor.\u00a0I think even those tourists who are interested in history will be disappointed with the atmosphere of this museum.\u00a0The quality and quantity of its exhibits leaves much to be desired.\u00a0Exhausted by termites and turning dark from time to time, they do not cause any feelings except longing.\u00a0And for those who like me, are not fan of history, giving money for an admission is generally contraindicated.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Museum of Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; the collection of this museum consists of exhibits from different eras.\u00a0They tell visitors about the times when the island was just forming, and about modernity.\u00a0There is a bit of Viva Richards cricketer adored by anti-Guans, and a full-size replica of the Arawak home.\u00a0Arawaki are the indigenous people of the island, the Indians.\u00a0The museum is located in the center of the capital St. John&#8217;s.\u00a0If you do not want to visit the museum itself, find it anyway.\u00a0The stone building in the traditional English style is beautiful in itself &#8211;
